How To Buy NYCC Tickets!

The day we’ve been waiting for it finally here. Reed Pop announced today to buy New York Comic Con tickets this year. There have been big changes from last year to the Retail Partner Program, so make sure you read all the details below. The Saturday ticket and Kids ticket prices have stayed the same, but every other ticket has seen a price increase from last year. Thursday increased by $5 from $35 to $40. Friday and Sunday have also gone up $5, from $45 to $50. It’s interesting that Friday and Sunday are now the same price as Saturday. Usually Saturday is more expensive because it’s seen as “the” day to go. The multi-day tickets both jumped $10, for $65 for the 3-Day and $95 for the 4-Day to $75 and $105 respectively. There are two VIP packages, both of whose details are outlined on the NYCC website. The two packages sell for $215 and $525.

NYCC 2015 Ticket Price Chart

There are three ways to buy tickets to NYCC this year: 1) Online 2) At Special Edition: NYC 3) From Midtown Comics. I’m breaking down each option in this post.

nycc ticket info 2015

ONLINE

Online ticket sales will take place on Wednesday, May 13 at 12 noon eastern time on the NYCC website. Unlike the past few years, where VIP Packages, 4-Day Passes, 3-Day Passes and individual day tickets went on sale on different days, everything is going on sale at noon on May 13. Yes, there were a lot of problems last year with the site crashing, and hopefully New York Comic Con addresses that this year, but even with dealing with the site crashes, and tickets showing up as sold out one minute and on sale the next, online remains the best way to secure yourself a ticket. Mark your calendar now. Seriously, like right now. Set an alarm on your phone. You do not want to show up late to this party. Have your credit card out and ready to go. Every second you delay brings you closer to getting locked out of getting a ticket. You can buy up to 10 tickets in an order, but only 4 of any one ticket (4 3-Days, 4 Saturdays, etc).

AT SPECIAL EDITION: NYC

A very limited number of NYCC tickets will be on sale at Special Edition: NYC on June 6 and 7. The rules are strict. You can buy one New York Comic Con ticket. The downside to buying your ticket at Special Edition NYC compared to online is the added cost of a Special Edition: NYC ticket, which is $20 or $30 depending on which day you go (There is also a $50 full-weekend ticket). But this isn’t too much of a downside, because Special Edition: NYC rocks. Special Edition: NYC is like New York Comic Con’s younger, smaller sibling. But don’t let its size fool you. Special Edition: NYC is awesome if you are a comic book fan. Imagine NYCC, but without the video games, actors and wrestlers signing autographs, The Block, etc. It’s like they took Artist Alley and some panel rooms and turned that into a new convention. Special Edition: NYC is very reminiscent of the best smaller comic book conventions of yesteryear, but with A-list guests. Scott Snyder is going to be there. As is Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez, and many other creators. If you’re planning on buying your ticket at Special Edition: NYC, get there early. Last year, fans sprinted to the NYCC ticket line right at the opening like they were lining up for a Scott Snyder signing. Those tickets went fast. Expect them to go just as fast this year.

AT MIDTOWN COMICS

Here’s where the ticketing options experienced the most change. The list of retailers selling New York Comic Con tickets has been diminishing over the past few years. This year, there’s only one: Midtown Comics. For the past two years, tickets went on sale at Midtown Comics’ downtown location the day before going on sale everywhere else. Last year, they were the only store that sold 4-Day Passes. This year, they’re the only store selling ANY passes. New York Comic Con and Midtown Comics have not released any concrete details yet as far as date and location are concerned, just saying that tickets will be sold at a special event at Midtown Comics this summer. We don’t know if it will be at all three stores, just the downtown store or what. But I will say this, if you end up relying on Midtown Comics for tickets, be prepared for some serious waiting around Midtown Comics. The last two years, a lot of people slept out overnight (two years ago in the pouring rain!) in order to secure their tickets. The lines were capped early and still lasted hours and hours once tickets went on sale. The following day, when the remaining tickets were divided up among Midtown’s three stores, the downtown store was sold out of 3-Day, 4-Day and Saturday tickets before the store officially opened. I will say this for Midtown Comics, for all the craziness that goes on there when NYCC tickets go on sale, they are so much better organized than every other store that sold NYCC tickets last year. I remember reading about a store in Queens that had a line down the block before it opened, only to turn everyone away, because they pre-sold all their NYCC tickets to their regulars. I was at another store in downtown Manhattan where the owner bragged about holding NYCC tickets back for his regulars. That’s great for his regulars, but against NYCC’s ticket rules. Midtown Comics may have been packed with people trying to buy tickets last year, but Midtown played by the rules while keeping order.

You now armed with the information you need to secure a New York Comic Con ticket for yourself. If you follow my advice outlined above, you’ll hopefully find yourself with a NYCC ticket without having to pay an arm and a leg to a scalper. Good luck, god speed, may the odds be ever in your favor and may the Force be with you.

NYCC 2014 Exclusive Merch!

Written by David Henehan.

Like in past years, there is a lot of exclusive merchandise available for sale at New York Comic Con 2014. We went through the list and picked out what we think is the best for this guide. Sadly, it looks like Hasbro has once again spurned NYCC, with zero exclusives available at the show. I really wish they would reverse course on this decision, but there are still plenty of cool exclusives from other companies available at the convention. We found something for every budget, as prices range from free to $300.

Be sure to bookmark this page, as this post will be updated as we get closer to NYCC 2014!

Avengers & X-Men: Axis #1 Midtown Comics Variant ($12) – I’m not usually one for variant covers, but this one that is drawn to look like a Scarlet Witch/Enchantress playing card looks really cool. Even the back cover ad for Midtown Comics looks like the back of a playing card! Available at the Midtown Comics booth (2036) and Midtown Comics stores around NYC.

Batman: Arkham Origins Play Arts -Kai- Deathstroke Limited Color Version – ($99.99 – Limited to 1000 pieces) – 10″ tall and completely bad ass looking, this is redeco of the Arkham Origins Play Arts Deathstroke, It’s painted in metallic hues of Deathstroke’s original blue and gold costume. Available at the Square Enix booth (1813). Square Enix has 500 of these Deathstroke figures available for pre-order on their website if you’d like to guarantee yourself one, or can’t make it to NYCC.

Star Wars Wampa Hallmark Keepsake Ornament ($35 – Limited to 200/day) – The first place I’ll be hitting up on Thursday is the Hallmark booth (1554) for this ornament. My Christmas tree hasn’t been complete for years, I see that now, because it was missing this ornament. If you’d like this ornament too, make sure you join me first thing on the Hallmark booth line. They’re only selling 200 per day, and this will sell out quickly! Also, if your friends want one, they’ll have to join you in line. Hallmark traditionally caps to these exclusives to one of each ornament per person.

Wampa-QMP4089-L

Iron Man 3 War Machine Hallmark Keepsake Ornament ($25 – Limited to 150/day) – I have loved the War Machine armor since it was first introduced in the Iron Man comics back in the 1990s. Limited edition War Machine ornament, you say? Well, I’m going to be on that Hallmark line anyway. And for those of you who bought the Hallmark Iron Patriot ornament last year, this is a repaint of that ornament. Just think how great they’ll look next to each other on your tree. Available at the Hallmark booth (1554).

IronPatriot-QMP4088-L

Batman: Arkham’s Avenger Hallmark Keepsake Ornament ($35 – Limited to 175/day) – This ornament is inspired by the Arkham City video game, capturing Batman perched on one of Gotham City’s numerous gargoyles. Like their other ornaments, sales on this are super limited, so get on that Hallmark booth (1554) line early!

Batman-QMP4085-L

Star Wars Tusken Raider and Bantha itty bitty Plush ($20 – Limited to 300/day) – For the little Star Wars fan in your life…or you know, just for you. It’s a cute stuffed animal pair consisting of a Tusken Raider and a bantha, the beast that the Sand People ride on in the desert wastes of Tatooine. These are super cute, and super limited. Available at the Hallmark booth (1554).

Tusken_Bantha_IB-L

Sam Raimi Action Figure – Direct your Tobey Maguire Spider-Man action figure in an action figure version of the never made Spider-Man 4 with this Sam Raimi action figure. Limited to only 50 pieces. Between all the Spider-Man and Army of Darkness fans at NYCC, I don’t see these lasting long. $65 claims yours at the Tenacious Toys booth (208).
Tenacious_x_Credenda_Sam_Raimi_Excl_figure

Doctor Who TITAN: 8″ Trenzalore TARDIS Figure – It’s the Doctor’s tombstone, his own decayed TARDIS from his grave on Trenzalore. I really like Titan’s line of Doctor Who TITANS. This one is no exception. Available at the Titan booth (2142)

nycc 2014 tardis trensalore

Doctor Who TITANS: 3″ 12th Doctor Homeless Outfit Figure – Wearing the coat he bought off a homeless man, in Victorian London, this 3″ TITAN of 12th Doctor Peter Capaldi will look awesome standing contrasted on your bookshelf with last year’s 10th Doctor Tuxedo Variant TITAN on your bookshelf. Available at the Titan booth (2142)

homeless 12 doctor titan nycc 2014

Doctor Who TITANS: 6.5″ 12th Doctor Figurre – Do you like your Doctors bigger? Then you should opt for this 6.5″ variant of Peter Capaldi’s 12th Doctor, standing at more then twice the size of the other TITAN Capaldi figure. Available at the Titan booth (2142)

nycc exclusive 12 doctor

Ecto-1 POP Rides! – There are a few Funko Pop! exclusives available at NYCC this year, but this special “slimed” variant of the Funko POP Rides! Ecto-1 car with Egon behind the wheel is definitely the coolest. Available at Toy Tokyo (101)

nycc 2014 ecto 1

30th Anniversary Voltron Gold Edition – And I thought the 20th Anniversary Voltron figure looked cool. There are only 500 available. It features light-up LED eyes, has die-cast parts, stands 11″ on its own and 13″ on its base. The downside, besides the $300 price tag? The “gold” in the special Gold Edition is limited to the security seals on the box. That said, it’s still a very cool looking figure. Available at the Toynami Inc booth (556)

voltron-30th-anniversary-die-cast-light-up-figure-sm

HeroClix Captain America Sentinel ($25 – Cash only) – This Marvel HeroClix Sentinel is painted to look like Captain America. The New Mutants fought it when they were sent to the future timeline of Days of Future Past. Available at the Neca/WizKids booth (536). Note: The WizKids booth is cash only!

Sentinel_CaptainAmerica-156x300

HeroClix Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends Team Base ($25 – Cash only) – Yes! It’s been some time since I last played HeroClix, but this set could get me back into the game. The base includes Spider-Man, Firestar and Ice Man, who can be played as a single unit on the base or taken off the base to play separately. The set also includes a map of Liberty Island, so that you can play with the figures right out of the box. But most importantly, they include Aunt May’s dog, Ms. Lion, on the base! As a Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends fan, this is something I definitely want on my desk. Now if we could only get Hallmark to make a Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends exclusive ornament next year! Available at the Neca/WizKids booth (536). Note: The WizKids booth is cash only!

Spider-ManFriends-300x300

HeroClix: War of Light Black and White Batteries Pack ($25 – Cash Only) – WizKids hasn’t forgotten their DC fans. This War of Light pack includes both the Black Lantern and White Lantern central power batteries, and a bunch of White Lantern and Black Lantern constructs. Definitely worth the $25. For all of their exclusives, WizKids will have a limited supply on hand each day, so if want any of their merch, be sure to hit their booth up early. Available at the Neca/WizKids booth (536). Note: The WizKids booth is cash only!

71635_Lantern_Corps-300x151

NYCC Mad Libs – I love Mad Libs. Who doesn’t? This is a special NYCC exclusive Mad Libs, with stories based on comic book conventions. Available at both the Penguin booth (2108) and Mad Libs booth (965)

Disco Nightwing and Flash “Fastest Man Alive” Mini-Prints – Stop by Christopher Jones’s table in Artist Alley, show him that you follow him on Twitter (@ChrisJonesArt), and you’ll be able to grab one of these two prints for FREE! If you’re having a hard time finding his table, just look for all the Young Justice cosplayers. And when you get your free print, tell him that Tuesday Night Movies sent you!

NYCC 2014 Tickets On Sale Friday 8/8/14 at Comic Book Stores!

Have you bought your New York Comic Con 2014 tickets yet? NYCC tickets sold out in record time online this year. Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 3-Day and 4-Day passes are all sold out on the NYCC website. You’ll have one last opportunity to buy tickets starting this Thursday, 8/7/14 when NYCC 2014 tickets will begin being sold in comic book stores.

Here’s how it works. On Thursday, 8/7/14, the downtown location Midtown Comics on Fulton St will kick off retail sales of NYCC 2014 tickets. This location of Midtown Comics will be the ONLY store selling tickets on Thursday. I have to say, after last year’s fiasco of having lines snaking for blocks and people having to wait hours and hours in line, I’m surprised that New York Comic Con and Midtown Comics have decided to have the downtown store sell tickets one day early again. It couldn’t have been more of a snafu last year for both customers and Midtown’s staff.

Midtown NYCC Tix

On Friday, 8/8/14, the other stores selling NYCC 2014 tickets will begin their sales.

NYCC Retailer Tix

Here is a list of all the stores selling NYCC tickets, and which tickets they’ll be selling. If you’re looking for a 4-Day pass, Midtown Comics is the only store carrying it. Demand for NYCC tickets is higher than its ever been. If you want a NYCC 3-Day or 4-Day pass, I recommend making it a priority to get yourself early to a store that is selling one.

Not at SDCC? No problem!

sdcc-logo

Couldn’t make it to Comic Con International in San Diego this year? That doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all the fun! Check out these sites to make your not-at-Comic-Con time more bearable!

To celebrate SDCC’s 45th birthday, Comixology will be selling one digital graphic novel for $0.45 each day of SDCC. Thursday’s offering was an Amelia Cole comic, Friday’s is Love & Rockets: New Stories #1. Both are regularly $9.99 on Comixology, so this is quite a deal. You can access the deal here: http://comixology.tumblr.com/cci45. Check it both Saturday and Sunday for new deals!

Are you kicking yourself because you can’t get a Star Wars Black Series Jabba the Hutt or Transfrormers Knights of Unicron set? Hasbro puts up a very limited amount of their SDCC exclusives for sale at hasbrotoyshop.com after Comic Con is over. Unfortunately, they don’t announce in advance what day or what time it will take place. So from Monday on, get ready to hit f5 all day.

Marvel is giving away six free Marvel Infinite digital comics here. Deadpool, Wolverine and Iron Man. You can’t beat this price!

Midtown Comics in NYC is having their annual Not at Comic Con Party on Saturday, July 26 at their downtown store on Fulton St. Everything in the store is 30% off from 11 AM to 12 noon, and 20% for the rest of the day. Plus, Paul Kupperberg and Dean Haspiel will be signing there from 2 PM – 3 PM.

Not in New York either? If you’re in Florida, Tate’s Comics is also having a Not at Comic Con party. If you wear a cape or costume, you can take 10% off your purchase, and there will be lots of giveaways.

NYCC Tickets On Sale NOW!

nycc-logo-hi-res

New York Comic Con tickets went on sale today at 12 noon on the New York Comic Con website!

But not all tickets are going on sale today, just the 4-Day Pass ($95), Kid’s Day Tickets ($5) and VIP packages ($195 & $485). If you’re interested in getting any of these tickets, jump on them! You do not want to wait until tickets go on sale at retail locations. Finding 3-Day and 4-Day passes at comic book stores last year was a nightmare. I recommend securing your pass directly from NYCC as soon as you can.

nycc 4day vip kids tix

For those of you interested in the 3-Day Pass, if the past holds true, that will be up for sale shortly after the 4-Day Pass sells out. The individual day tickets will then follow shortly thereafter.

Personally, I think you should buy a 4-Day Pass. At $95, it’s $30 more than the 3-Day pass, so you’re only saving $5 over buying a 3-Day Pass and a separate Thursday ticket. That said, Thursday is the best day at NYCC! The crowds are light. The lines for exclusives are the smallest they’ll be all weekend. It’s the perfect day to take care of things that would take much longer on the more crowded days during NYCC weekend.

If you’re a parent thinking about taking your kid to NYCC, consider Sunday. Crowds are lighter than Saturday, there are specific activities aimed at kids that day and you can buy a Kid’s Day ticket for your child for only $5! Kid’s Day tickets have sold out quickly in past years.

Two VIP packages are being offered. The Special Access Package ($195) and the Ultimate Access Package ($485). I don’t know about these. Yes, you get onto the show floor first, but you don’t get much of a head start over everyone else. What was nice about the VIP package at Special Edition: NYC was that you were allowed onto the show floor a full half hour before everyone else. Here, you’re just at the front of the line. NYCC is throwing in some cool perks in both of the packages, but at those price points, I recommend giving it some serious thought. They’re super-limited and sure to sell out, so if it appeals to you, get on it quick before you miss out.

Pricing-Grid-Temp-2014

UPDATE: As of 12:25 PM on 6/18/14, NYCC VIP Ticket packages are SOLD OUT!

UPDATE 2: As of 1:30 PM on 6/18/14, NYCC 4-Day Passes are SOLD OUT! This is huge. This is the fastest NYCC 4-Day Passes have sold out since they were introduced a couple of years ago. Last year, it took a few weeks for the 4-Day Pass to sell out. The 3-Day Pass is more popular than the 4-Day Pass. If you’re interested in a 3-Day Pass, make sure you are at your computer the minute they go on sale! If you want a 4-Day Pass, Midtown Comics will be the only comic book store carrying them. I’ll update with the on-sale dates for these passes once I find them out.

NYCC 2013 Retailer Tickets Go On Sale 8/12/13 (UPDATED!)

Buried at the bottom of an email New York Comic Con sent out today announcing that Batman artist Greg Capullo will be attending NYCC this year was an announcement that will have far more immediate impact for people have been unable to score their weekend pass to New York Comic Con 2013. Here is the image from the email.

The Retailer Ticket page on NYCC’s website doesn’t list any stores as of this writing. We do know that Midtown Comics will be selling them at all three of their locations. Midtown Comics may be the only comic book store in New York City itself where you’ll be able to buy tickets. Midtown has already announced that all of their NYCC ticket sales will take place in person; there won’t be any mail order available for them.

Retailers will be selling 4-Day, 3-Day and single day passes to New York Comic Con, so if you missed out on a 3 or 4-Day pass, this is your chance. Don’t miss out.

UPDATE! According to the Midtown Comics Twitter and Facebook pages, Midtown Comics will have NYCC tickets for sale starting on 8/8/13 at 12 noon.
