SE:NYC Tickets On Sale This Wednesday!

If you are a comic book fan who dismissed Special Edition: NYC last year as being New York Comic Con Lite, then you definitely missed out. Special Edition: NYC isn’t a scaled down New York Comic Con. It’s a comic book concentrated New York Comic Con. SE:NYC was a comic book fan’s dream come true. Imagine great local comic book conventions in the past, like the Ramapo High School Comic Cons of the 80s and 90s, but with the power of NYCC behind it, and you get SE:NYC! Last year’s line-up was great, and I expect this year’s line-up to be just as good.

This year, Special Edition: NYC is moving out of the Javits Convention Center to the nearby Pier 94. The two day convention runs Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7. Tickets are $30 for Saturday, $20 for Sunday, and $45 for the weekend. There is also a VIP package available for $100. Plus, if you’re a parent, both days are “Kids Day,” as kids 6-12 can get a Kids Ticket for only $5.

Tickets go on sale this Wednesday, February 4. Last year, tickets did not sell as briskly as they did for NYCC, but that doesn’t mean you should dawdle in securing your spot. The VIP option did sell out last year, and is completely worth it. The VIP ticket is priced at the not-breaking-the-bank price of $100. This gets you into the convention both days, a VIP lounge and coat check (okay, a coat check isn’t the most necessary thing for a convention in June, but it’s still nice), a poster signed by the artist who drew it, 15% off at the show store…okay, I get it, this all sounds nice, but you’re asking yourself, “Why should I pay more than double the price of the $45 weekend pass for the VIP Package?” Well, that’s easy! Because VIP ticket holders get into the show floor a half hour before everyone else. If you’re like me and love to get sketches from artists, this can mean the difference between securing a spot on someone’s list and being the guy who just missed the cut off. I got a couple of very cool sketches as last year’s SE:NYC thanks to the VIP pass getting me in early, so I’ll definitely be gunning for that package at 12 noon on Wednesday. Also, VIP ticket holders will get a private autographing session with two of the creators at SE:NYC. Which two? They haven’t said yet, but I’m guessing it will two of higher profile names attending the show.

Set your alarm for noon on Wednesday and get your SE: NYC ticket! Want more details on Special Edition: NYC? Check out the SE:NYC website.

I was surprised by the number of cosplayers at Special Edition: NYC. There just didn’t seem to be that many compared to New York Comic Con. I wonder if it’s that people felt limited in what they could cosplay as at a convention that billed itself as geared specifically to comic books, and not one as all-encompassing as NYCC. That said, those who did cosplay at SE:NYC really brought it!

This Silent Bob is a staple of the NY cosplay scene. I feel like I see him at every convention.

Nightcrawler and Azazel! This might be the best Nightcrawler I’ve ever seen (and the only pirate Azazel).

Leatherface was following us around, and we said, "What's that noise?" It was the hum of his chainsaw. We jumped when we turned around.

You can’t quite see it in this photo, but Spidey’s backpack is made to look like it’s made of webs. Follow these two on Instagram: @kittenanddragon and @skywalkersgambit. Their cosplay photos are consistently great!

NYCC Tickets On Sale NOW!

nycc-logo-hi-res

New York Comic Con tickets went on sale today at 12 noon on the New York Comic Con website!

But not all tickets are going on sale today, just the 4-Day Pass ($95), Kid’s Day Tickets ($5) and VIP packages ($195 & $485). If you’re interested in getting any of these tickets, jump on them! You do not want to wait until tickets go on sale at retail locations. Finding 3-Day and 4-Day passes at comic book stores last year was a nightmare. I recommend securing your pass directly from NYCC as soon as you can.

For those of you interested in the 3-Day Pass, if the past holds true, that will be up for sale shortly after the 4-Day Pass sells out. The individual day tickets will then follow shortly thereafter.

Personally, I think you should buy a 4-Day Pass. At $95, it’s $30 more than the 3-Day pass, so you’re only saving $5 over buying a 3-Day Pass and a separate Thursday ticket. That said, Thursday is the best day at NYCC! The crowds are light. The lines for exclusives are the smallest they’ll be all weekend. It’s the perfect day to take care of things that would take much longer on the more crowded days during NYCC weekend.

If you’re a parent thinking about taking your kid to NYCC, consider Sunday. Crowds are lighter than Saturday, there are specific activities aimed at kids that day and you can buy a Kid’s Day ticket for your child for only $5! Kid’s Day tickets have sold out quickly in past years.

Two VIP packages are being offered. The Special Access Package ($195) and the Ultimate Access Package ($485). I don’t know about these. Yes, you get onto the show floor first, but you don’t get much of a head start over everyone else. What was nice about the VIP package at Special Edition: NYC was that you were allowed onto the show floor a full half hour before everyone else. Here, you’re just at the front of the line. NYCC is throwing in some cool perks in both of the packages, but at those price points, I recommend giving it some serious thought. They’re super-limited and sure to sell out, so if it appeals to you, get on it quick before you miss out.

UPDATE: As of 12:25 PM on 6/18/14, NYCC VIP Ticket packages are SOLD OUT!

UPDATE 2: As of 1:30 PM on 6/18/14, NYCC 4-Day Passes are SOLD OUT! This is huge. This is the fastest NYCC 4-Day Passes have sold out since they were introduced a couple of years ago. Last year, it took a few weeks for the 4-Day Pass to sell out. The 3-Day Pass is more popular than the 4-Day Pass. If you’re interested in a 3-Day Pass, make sure you are at your computer the minute they go on sale! If you want a 4-Day Pass, Midtown Comics will be the only comic book store carrying them. I’ll update with the on-sale dates for these passes once I find them out.
