Written by David Henehan.

Welcome to Day 2 of NYCC. You made it through Thursday, the day of NYCC that is least packed, in terms of both attendance and what creators are there, but now it’s Friday! More people at the Javits Center! More panels! That said, there seem to be less MUST ATTEND panels than Thursday. BUT the good Friday panels are AWESOME Friday panels, which is going to make for some hard choices when it comes to time conflicts.

DC Comics – The Dark Knight 30th Anniversary – 11:00-12:00 Main Stage 1-D

Wow, talk about a star-studded panel. Jim Lee, Klaus Jansen, Andy Kubert, Brian Azzarello and surprise guests. Could the surprise guests possibly be Scott Snyder and Frank Miller?! What do you think? (Wristband required)

Dark Horse: CLASSIFIED – 11:00-12:00 1A21

Dark Horse lost the Star Wars license at the end of 2014. What would have been a mortal blow to another company inspired this company to really go all out in producing new quality product. Dark Horse has long been a home of great independent work and licensed comics. With the loss of their biggest license, they doubled down on the creator owned titles, giving us such gems as Brian Wood’s Rebels. Wood will be at this panel, as will Matt Kindt, Mike Richardson and more. Come here to see what Dark Horse has planned for 2016.

Dan Parent Drawing Workshop – 11:00-12:00 Family HQ 1C01

Here’s a fun one to bring the kids. Dan Parent of Archie Comics will be hosting a drawing workshop. Learn how to draw your Archie faves.

YogaQuest: Narrated Yogic Adventures – 1:15-2:15 Family HQ 1C04

“A mix of yoga and fan-fiction storytelling.” Okay, you’ve piqued my interest. Hmm, maybe this is the day I’ll wear my Spider-Man costume to NYCC.

Star Wars Collectibles Update with Lucasfilm’s Anita Castellar – 1:30-2:30 1A21   CANCELLED

If you missed yesterday’s Hasbro Star Wars panel, make up for it by attending the Lucasfilm Star Wars Collectibles panel, which will cover the gamut of upcoming Star Wars merchandise.

In Conversation With Seth Meyers – 1:45-2:45 1A10

Late night host, former SNL head writer, and published comic book writer (it’s true!) Seth Meyers will be interviewed by Vulture’s Jesse David Fox. I’m surprised this is in one of the smaller A-line panel rooms, and not on either the Main Stage or Empire Stage.

The Adventure Continues: A Justice League Reunion Event – 2:00-3:00 Empire Stage 1E

This is the first time that the Justice League cartoon cast is reuniting in over 10 years! Kevin Conroy (Batman), Susan Eisenberg (Wonder Woman), George Newbern (Superman), Phil LaMaar (Green Lantern), Maria Canals-Barrera (Hawkgirl), Carl Lumbly (Martian Manhunter) and Voice Director Andrea Romano all in the same room! The cast will also be autographing in the autographing area at different points during NYCC. Be sure to check the timetable in the autographing area for that info.

[adult swim] Panel Block – 2:30-5:15 Main Stage 1-D

The people behind Venture Bros, Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter, and Robot Chicken will all be here and will have preview footage of their new seasons. (Wristband required)

Archie Comics Forever – 4:15-5:15 1A05

Are you reading Archie by Mark Waid and Fiona Staples? If not, you need to. It’s one of the best new comics of 2015. Mark Waid will be at this panel, as will Roberto Aguirre-Sacassa (Afterlife with Archie), Chip Zdarsky and more.

Dorkly Presents Today in Nerd Trivia – 6:30-7:30 1A21

As a member of Trivia NYC’s reigning Trivia Champions of New York City (seriously, look it up), I’m all about this. I really, really, really hope I get picked to join the Dorkly staff to compete on stage.

Batman: Bad Blood Exclusive First Look 8:00-9:00 Main Stage 1-D

See exclusive footage of the latest from Warner Animated’s DC Superhero movies, Batman: Bad Blood. Batwoman and Batwing are finally appearing in an animated movie! This one is directed by Jay Oliva, which means it’s bound to have awesome fight scenes!

NYCC 2014 – Friday Panel Guide

nycc-2014-logo-hi-res

As I mentioned in our Thursday Panel Guide, there are a lot of panels at NYCC this year. On Friday, the panels get into full swing. There are bound to be time conflicts and hard decisions to make. To ease the process, here are our picks for the can’t-miss panels of Friday!

12:00 PM – 12:45 PM – Voice Acting Master Class With Andrea Romano – 1A10

Did I read that right? A voice acting class with Andrea Romano, the casting director behind pretty much every DC animated project since Batman: The Animated Series? Yes. Please.

12:15 PM – 1:00 PM – Image Comics: I is for Infinite – 1A14

Attention Scott Snyder fans! He’ll be talking about his non-Batman work at this panel. As will Kieron Gillen. Hmmm, I wonder if Jamie McKelvie will show up. It just makes sense to have both creators from The Wicked + The Divine there.

1:45 PM – 2:45 PM – Harry Potter NYC Presents The Art of Wand Dueling – Family HQ 1C04

Wand dueling. It’s like lightsaber fighting, but with less clashing of sticks and more pointing at each other while yelling, right? On the one hand, I can’t see this being as exciting as learning to have a lightsaber duel, but then again, I know for a fact that pointing at people and yelling “Expelliarmus!” is a run way to pass an afternoon.

doctor who expelliarmus

Speaking of which…

2:30 PM – 5:00 PM – [adult swim] Panel Block – Main Stage 1-D

All of [adult swim]’s panels in one handy block. Note: they will NOT be clearing the room between each panel in the [adult swim] block, so if you want to go to any of them, you may want to show up early and grab a seat for all of them. The panels are: The McBrayer/Triumph Panel (2:30 – 3:15), Rick and Morty (3:20 – 4:05) and Robot Chicken (4:15 – 5:00). This should be worth it just for the sneak peak at The Robot Chicken Lots of Holidays But Don’t Worry Christmas Is Still In There Too So Pull The Stick Out Of Your Ass Fox News.

4:05 PM – 4:45 PM – Nerdist Writers Panel – 1A18

Ben Blacker interviews Brian K. Vaughan about writing. What else do you need to know?

4:30 PM – 5:30 PM – Once Upon on a Time Has Frozen Over – Empire Stage 1-E

I’m not a watcher of Once Upon a Time, and yet I find myself completely excited that they’re doing this, bringing the characters from Disney’s latest hit animated movie, Frozen, into the world of Once Upon a Time. It just seems like such a fresh idea. I love it. I may start watching Once Upon a Time now.

5:45 PM – 6:45 PM – Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD – Main Stage 1-D

Jeph Loeb talks all things Agents of SHIELD and you’ll see the next episode before it airs!

7:15 PM – 8:15 PM – Justice League: Throne of Atlantis  – Empire Stage 1-E

Did you watch the trailer for Throne of Atlantis that came with Batman: Assault on Arkham? No? Watch it now. And then get excited for this panel that will have clips from the movie, and Andrea Romano, James Tucker, Phil Bourassa and Heath Corson on hand for questions.

2011 New York Comic Con: Thursday & Friday Panels

Unless I get my hands on a time turner, there’s no way I’m making it to every panel on this list. But here are the ones that I think look cool.

Thursday:

My pass doesn’t get me through the door on Thursday until 4 PM and all but one panel happen before that time. If you’re interested in working in 3D, the one panel after 4 PM is the panel for you, otherwise…

Friday:

10:45 AM – 11:45 AM – Zombies, Fallen Angels and Other Paranormals Give New Meaning To

I don’t actually have much interest in this panel, but damn it, they’ve piqued my curiosity by not telling us what zombies, fallen angels and other paranormals give new meaning to! I suddenly need to know! It could be anything! For all I know the answer is Sour Patch Kids! Sure, it’s probably not Sour Patch Kids, but I’ll never know unless I go. I hope they give out free Sour Patch Kids.

11:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Locke & Key Pilot Screening

Competing with finding out what zombies give new meaning to is the Locke & Key Pilot screening. Word on the street is that it is good. If I make it to this, expect a review on the blog.

12:45 PM – 1:15 PM  – Wand Dueling

I’m heading to a Harry Potter themed costume party later this month. This panel might give me the skills I need to take home the party’s Tri-Wizard Cup. This should be interesting. When Star Wars fans have lightsaber battles, they’re basically sword fighting. But is this just going to involve people 20 feet apart pointing at each other?

1:15 PM – 2:15 PM – DC ALL ACCESS: Batman

Last month, DC Comics relaunched all of their series with new #1s.  Bruce Wayne is still Batman, but he’s not the same Bruce Wayne that was in the comics two months ago. Confusing? They actually did this to make comics less confusing. If you like Batman, this is the panel for you. Both the writer and artist of Batman, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo will be on this panel, as well as other creators from the Bat-comics franchise. I recommend leaving before Q&A, unless you want to hear questions along the lines of “Does this story still count?” and fanboy rage when the answer is “No.” I take that back, stay for the Q&A.

2:30 PM – 3:30 PM is Breaking Into Comics the Marvel Way

They’re going to tell you to get published somewhere else first. So instead, head to…

3:00 PM – 4:00 PM – DC Universe Animated Original Movies Gives an Early Look at Batman: Year One, Catwoman & Justice League: Doom

Bruce Timm and Kevin Conroy will be on hand, and they’ll be going over the upcoming DCU animated movies. The DC animated movies have been getting better each year. This should be good.

3:45 – 4:45 – Joe Simon: My Life in Comics

Joe Simon co-created Captain America  and he knew Stan Lee as a teenager. He’s turning 98 a couple of days before NYCC. What he has to say, no matter what it is, should be interesting to listen to.

4:00 PM – 5:00 PM – Star Wars Crafts With Bonnie Burton

Finally, my love for Star Wars can meet my love for Martha Stewart!

5:00 PM – 6 PM – DC ALL ACCESS: Green Lantern

All three writers of the Green Lantern books, Geoff Johns, Peter Tomasi and Tony Bedard are going to be there. This is a can’t miss for any GL fan.

5:15 PM – 6:00 PM – Robot Chicken

If I’m not at the Green Lantern panel, I will be here. Seth Green, Zeb Wells, Doug Goldstein and Matthew Senreich will be previewing season 5.5. What does this and the Green Lantern panel have to conflict???

6:15 PM – 7:15 PM – MARVEL: Amazing Spider-Man

If you’re into Spider-Man or getting your grubby hands on a con exclusive Daredevil pin, see you here (I am into both those things)!

7:00 PM – 9:30 PM – Jay and Silent Bob Get Old

I watched Clerks, Mallrats and Chasing Amy repeatedly and religiously in college. Tickets for Jay and Silent Bob Get Old are still available as of this writing here. I may have to buy one.

7:30 PM – 8:30 PM – IGN Podcast Beyond Gives You Free Sh1t (Live Podcast)

If you don’t want to shell out the money for the Jay and Silent Bob podcast, you can get free sh1t at this one. It looks fun.

7:30 PM – 8:30 PM – Mark Hamill Spotlight

PRO: It won’t cost you $100 to hear Mark Hamill speak.
CON: He may be talking more about his new comic at Dark Horse than Star Wars or Batman: The Animated Series.

7:45 PM – 9:45 PM – NYCC Charity Auction

Help them help the kids! Plus, the line-up of artists who have already donated looks amazing. Win-win!

8:45 – 10:00 PM – Pizza Man

They’re not showing the entire movie, just a preview, but a pizza delivering superhero sounds like the making of a cult classic! Plus, Frankie Muniz and Diamond Dallas Page will be on hand. DDP!

That’s it for Thursday and Friday. Did I miss any interesting looking panels? Let me know!
